Industry Information

What is telemedicine?

Telemedicine is defined as the use of information technology including the telephone and the Internet for diagnosing, treating and/or monitoring patients. Telemedicine has added a new dimension to modern health care, not only making care more accessible and convenient, but also helping to raise the quality and contain the costs of medical care.

How can a traditional face-to-face doctor visit be replaced with a telephonic or web video medical consultation?

DocLogic Telemedicine Service is not intended to replace your primary care physician. DocLogic provides access to licensed physicians for medical consultations to supplement the care from your primary care physician. For common conditions, a telephone or web video Diagnostic Consultation can sometimes replace a doctor's office or emergency room visit. Communication with your primary care physician is important for continuity of care, and DocLogic's online tools allow the patients to share, in a confidential and secure manner, their Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) with their primary care physician - quickly and easily.

Can a physician diagnose and treat a patient over the telephone or web video without ever seeing the patient in person, face-to-face?

This is determined on a case-by-case basis by the consulting physician using his/her own medical judgment as to whether sufficient information has been obtained from the patient on which to make an evaluation and diagnosis, and to recommend a treatment plan, which may or may not include prescriptions for medication. This entire process is documented appropriately, and in detail, and under no circumstances do any physicians in the DocLogic Physician Network prescribe any DEA-controlled medications.

Does DocLogic offer access to both Informational and Diagnostic Consultations with physicians in all U.S. states?

Presently, DocLogic offers access to 2 types of Consultations:

Informational Consultations (for general medical information and advice):

The Service

What is the DocLogic Telemedicine Service?

DocLogic connects members 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, via telephone, web video and email with U.S.-based, licensed physicians who have independently contracted to be participating providers in the DocLogic Physician Network. It is a convenient and affordable alternative that increases access to physician care, while lowering health care costs.

How does a consultation work?

DocLogic provides access to physicians for telephone, web video or secure email consultations. The medical services offered during a consultation can range from providing general medical information and advice to evaluating specific conditions, making a diagnosis, recommending treatment, or prescribing medication, when appropriate.

What conditions can be treated by a telephone or web video Diagnostic Consultation with a physician?

DocLogic provides access to physicians for the treatment of non-emergency, common conditions involving routine primary care. Specific examples include allergies, throat infections, respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, gastroenteritis, and many other everyday ailments. Should a member present a case that, in the judgment of the consulting physician, requires further examination, the consulting physician may recommend that the patient see a Primary Care Physician. Consultation services are subject to the discretion of the consulting physician when applying clinical judgment and/or any limitations required by law.

Where and when are DocLogic's services available?

Presently, DocLogic offers access to 2 types of Consultations:

Informational Consultations (for general medical information and advice):

  • with a network Medical Doctor (a M.D.) via telephone 24/7/365 (connected within five minutes) or via secure email (replies within 30 minutes).

Diagnostic Consultations1 (for evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and prescriptions when appropriate):

  • with a network Medical Doctor (a M.D.) licensed in your state, except South Carolina and Oklahoma - if Oklahoma, a network Doctor of Osteopathy (a D.O.) 24/7/365 via telephone (guaranteed call back within 3 hours, but usually within 25 minutes). Consultations available via web video in select states2 (call back time dependent on doctor's availability, but usually within 3 hours).

2: Web video consultations available presently in all states except OK, SC and TX.

Why might someone use the DocLogic service instead of seeing his or her own physician?

According to the Wellness Councils of America (WELCOA), as many as 70% of physician office visits and emergency room visits are unnecessary. While the care was necessary, the travel and cost of the visit could be avoided. DocLogic provides access to a more convenient and cost-effective alternative to the high-cost setting of a doctor's office, an urgent care facility, or the ER.

Does DocLogic's service replace the need for a Primary Care Physician?

DocLogic Telemedicine service does not replace the need for a Primary Care Physician. DocLogic Telemedicine Service is designed to supplement care administered by the member's primary care physician. It should only be used as an alternative to the traditional health care setting when appropriate, and as needed.

Does the physician have access to the member's medical history before performing a Diagnostic Consultation?

Yes. The patient must provide full medical history to the physician prior to a telephone or web video consult. The consulting physician has available for review, the medical history that is provided by the member and any other medical records stored in the member's HIPAA-compliant electronic medical record.

How does the consulting physician obtain the member's medical history?

Members are required to complete a comprehensive medical history prior to participating in a diagnostic consultation. The medical history questionnaire becomes a permanent part of the member's electronic medical record and is available to be updated by the member at any time. Prior to every Diagnostic Consultation, the automated system will ask the member if there are any changes or updates to the medical history that is on file. The detailed medical history is similar to the information an individual provides during his or her first office visit to a Primary Care Physician, including current complaints, past medical history, previously diagnosed conditions, current medications, and allergies.

How are patient records maintained at DocLogic?

DocLogic follows the laws and regulations related to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and patient privacy. The Member provides the medical history and is responsible for updates and any related medical information they choose to load into their medical record. Additionally, after each Diagnostic Consultation, the physician adds his/her medical notes to the patient record. Provided the member has supplied the proper HIPAA release documents, the medical record can be shared with the member's Primary Care Physician facilitating continuity of care.

What are the different types of consultation services offered?

Are the consulting physicians in the U.S.?

Do consulting physicians speak other languages besides English?

While some of the participating physicians in DocLogic's Physician Network do speak other languages, the service is presently only available in English.

Does DocLogic have access to network physicians in all U.S. states?

Yes. The service is available in all U.S. states.

How many physicians are available?

Does DocLogic have any specialists available?

DocLogic maintains active relationships with physicians who have diverse backgrounds and specialties. Consultations with physicians of a specific specialty, however, are not currently available.

How do physicians get paid?

Physicians who are independently contracted as participating providers in the DocLogic Physician Network are compensated out of Monthly Membership fees and/or per-consult fees for their provision of consultations whether informational or diagnostic. Diagnostic consults are paid at time of service when applicable.

How does DocLogic ensure that physicians are available at all times?

DocLogic maintains a proprietary technology platform that manages physician availability in accordance with member demand.

What are the physicians' qualifications?

The credentialing process follows credentialing protocol set forth by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). NCQA is a private, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. Since its founding in 1990, NCQA has been a central figure in driving improvement throughout the health care system, helping to elevate the issue of health care quality to the top of the national agenda.

Are physicians evaluated?

Yes. Following each consultation, members are surveyed and the results are recorded. Member satisfaction results are shared with the physicians. In addition, a statistically relevant sample of all consultations is reviewed for quality as part of the company's Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) policy.

5.

Prescription Policy

Can members get prescriptions from a consulting physician?

This is determined on a case-by-case basis during Diagnostic Consultations by the consulting physician using his/her own medical judgment as to whether sufficient information has been obtained from the patient on which to make an evaluation and diagnosis, and to recommend a treatment plan, which may or may not include prescriptions for medication. The Physician Network operates subject to the state regulations; DocLogic cannot guarantee that a prescription will be written. This entire process is documented appropriately, and in detail, and under no circumstances do any physicians in the DocLogic Physician Network prescribe any DEA-controlled medications, those used for a non-therapeutic purpose, and/or those substances that may be harmful (potential for abuse or addiction).

In the event a physician does prescribe medication, he/she will usually limit the supply to no more than thirty days. Patients with chronic illnesses should visit their Primary Care Physicians or other specialists for extended care.

Are there any limitations as to what medications physicians can prescribe?

DocLogic physicians do not prescribe DEA-controlled medications.

DocLogic's network physicians do not issue prescriptions for substances regulated by the DEA, those used for a non-therapeutic purpose, and/or those substances that may be harmful (potential for abuse or addiction).

How are prescriptions filled?

DocLogic is not a pharmacy and it does not fill or supply prescription medications. The prescribing physician calls in the prescription by telephone or uses e-prescribing tools to provide the prescription to the member's preferred pharmacy.

6.

Pharmacy Rx Card

Is there a cost for the card?

There is no cost for the Prescription Discount Card.

Who can use the card?

The card is valid for the cardholder and their entire family.

Can I use the card if I already have a prescription benefit program?

Yes, however, you cannot use the card in conjunction with the other program. You can only use one or the other.

Is the price listed on the Pharmacy Locator tool the discounted price?

The price listed on the Pharmacy Locator tool is the retail price. Simply take your prescription to the pharmacy and present your discount card for discounted pricing.

What is the average discount?

The discounts vary by drug. Find out how much you can save on prescription drugs.

Why does the pharmacy give a discount?

The pharmacies offer a discount in a highly competitive marketplace in exchange for your patronage.

Why is the card available to me at no cost?

There is no cost to the member because the pharmacies pay a dispensing fee to the Prescription Benefit Manager (PBM) in exchange for them being included in the network of participating pharmacies.

7.

Costs/Insurance

Does the individual member save money?

Recent studies indicate that 70% of all physician office visits are unnecessary. DocLogic Telemedicine Service provides members with access to physicians 24/7. Choosing DocLogic Telemedicine Service instead of visiting a Primary Care Physician, an urgent care facility, or hospital when it is not necessary, saves members both time and money. Additionally, members need not take costly time off from work.

How does DocLogic work with a member's medical insurance?

DocLogic Telemedicine Service is not a health or medical insurance; nor are the consultation services provided by the physicians (who are independently contracted as participating providers in DocLogic's Physician Network) typically considered covered services on any health insurance policy. DocLogic Telemedicine Service works independently of any health plan. The member or the member's sponsoring organization pays all fees associated with the service.

If the physician recommends that a member see a specialist or Primary Care Physician, does the member still have to pay the consult fee?

Yes. Like seeing any physician, if the patient is referred out to another physician, the consultation fees still apply.

Is the Service the same as a nurse's hot line?

No. The service is very different from a nurse hot line. Unlike the physicians in DocLogic Telemedicine Service, hot line nurses cannot make a medical diagnosis and prescribe medical treatment.

Why might someone use DocLogic when he/she could go to an urgent care center or some other kind of walk-in clinic?

While urgent care clinics typically cost less than emergency rooms, both serve a very valuable purpose in the continuum of care. However, an urgent care clinic setting is still much more expensive and is often unnecessary for many common conditions.

Why might someone use the service instead of just going to WebMD© or another online health content provider?

WebMD provides valuable information. Oftentimes after reading information on the Internet, however, people want to get clarification from a physician who can help sort through some of the technical issues.
